The Challenge
Although the ocean should play a key role in the green transition, we lack the knowledge and practical solutions needed to change the course of the climate crisis we are facing.
The term âBlue Transitionâ has become increasingly relevant as the demand for sustainable maritime and ocean-based technologies grows. (Ocean Tech) It highlights the oceanâs importance and shows that even in times of major challenges, there are opportunities and solutions.
The Ambition
Our vision is to build a global network of flagships and stakeholders who can accelerate the blue transition.
With strong support from experts and key stakeholders, we have demonstrated the significant potential in innovation and entrepreneurship. However, this requires far greater focus and new ways of thinking than we have seen so far.
That is why Ocean Flagships’ are needed â as catalysts for action and collaboration.
Ocean ecosystems are collapsing - We need new solutions that make saving the ocean a good business
The urgency
The ocean is the foundation of life on Earth â it regulates our climate, produces the oxygen we breathe, and is vital for food security and human health.
But ocean ecosystems are collapsing.
A blue transition is needed to secure life on our blue planet.
We need innovation, business and entrepreneurship that create positive impact for both the ocean and the environment.
Blue solutions
There is great potential in the blue solutions of the green transition. We see a wave of OceanTech startups rising. Sustainable ocean technologies can become a new blue growth adventure if we remember to cooperate with the ocean and life below the surface. We call it: The Blue Transition.
In our report, âBlue Solutions â Strengthening Sustainable Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Blue Denmarkâ, we have identified more than 50 technologies and development areas as âblue solutions.â We conducted in-depth analyses and provided suggestions on how to kickstart a much-needed blue startup ecosystem. It’s only available in Danish.

The sailing headquarters
OCEAN FLAGSHIPS envisions the creation of a global fleet and network of Flagships for the blue transition. Both as a physical platform for activities and as a strategic catalyst for action and outreach.
A seaborne platform enables outreach to port cities, universities, and educational institutions, and participation in events and activities across the globe.
Physical presence is the key to building relationships and networks – both locally and globally. It also enhances opportunities for exploration and knowledge gathering.
The flagship becomes both the focal point and the driving force in efforts to mobilize stakeholders, highlight potential, and accelerate the development of sustainable ocean solutions.
We will equip OCEAN FLAGSHIPS sailing headquarters and load it with sustainable blue solutions and OceanTech that can inspire and motivate more people to become blue entrepreneurs.
All Hands on Deck
With our sailing headquarters, we will embark on expeditions for the blue transition, exploring new blue solutions and entrepreneurs whom we can invite onboard, along with educators, advisors, and investors, to build networks and create new opportunities for collaboration and investment.
We aim to help and support as many entrepreneurs as possible, and at the same time build up knowledge capacity, and upskill those who will foster and assist the development and growth of future OceanTech entrepreneurs.
To ensure implementation and collaboration on the continued efforts, we have involved stakeholders and experts from the startup ecosystem, environmental organizations, the business community, and the maritime sector.
We will continue to strengthen these relationships and aim to develop scalable concepts that other organizations and stakeholders can utilize. Our goal is for all activities and efforts to be carried out in collaboration with others.

About the Organization
OCEAN FLAGSHIPS is a fast-growing non-profit organization that has gained more than 120 members in just three months.
The headquarters is based in Helsingørâs cultural harbor, but OCEAN FLAGSHIPS will drive activities both nationwide and internationally.
With a wide range of partners and strong support from businesses, experts, and knowledge institutions, the initiative has quickly built momentum. With more than 50 members in its expert-panel and advisory board, every effort is grounded in solid expertise and a strong cross-sector network.
OCEAN FLAGSHIPS is already recognized as one of the key players in Denmark in the development of maritime and ocean-based entrepreneurship â with the wind truly in its sails.
